Born On the Fourth Of July (Oliver Stone – 1989) A-

Powerful portrayal of the real life story of a paralyzed Vietnam veteran who is guilt-ridden because he accidentally killed a fellow soldier. The other plot point is how he turns from a war supporter to an anti-war activist because he felt betrayed and disillusioned. Tom Cruise gives a great performance and key scenes have lasting power. Namely the early scenes in the hospital and the scene when he confronts and confesses to the parents of the soldier he killed.
