Red Road (Andrea Arnold – 2006) B+

Considering that I was very buzzed when watching this and that it’s characters speak with a very strong Glasgow accent that I could barely decipher at times, I am surprised how well this film worked.  The story revolves around the depths someone will go to exact revenge and the impact that will have on them. How low will someone sink to get payback? Is it really worth it? I am not saying the movie answers any of that, but these are the questions that it deals with. The performances are subtle, moving and paint characters that are broken and devastated. The direction is assured, rustic and raw at the same time. It all works.
