Inspector Bellamy (Claude Chabrol – 2009) B

I could not help but be distracted by Gerard Depardieu in this film. I kept wondering if his nose was real and if he is really that fat! Childish, I know, but I still found him a bit distracting. This is more of a family drama than a mystery, but it works on both levels. The inspector is on vacation with his wife. They seem happy and in love after being married for many years. He cannot help but stray into an odd mystery involving an insurance scam, adultery and a decapitated body. Then enter his brother, definitely the black sheep, into the picture and you get a family drama with complex relationships, jealousy and buried secrets.
