Heaven (Tom Tykwer – 2002) C

There are some cool and beautiful shots and frames in this one but oh boy is it sappy and just “meh”. It is set in Italy and basically follows the story of a fugitive and her younger lover through Rome and the countryside. I am oversimplifying the story here and I understand it is deeper than that, but still the film felt a bit oddly paced and just cold. The script was written by one of my favorite directors, Krzysztof Kieslowski. It was supposed to be a part of another of his trilogies in the vein of his great Three Colors (Blue, White and Red). Unfortunately he passed away before that could be done. I wonder how Heaven would’ve turned out if Kieslowski had gotten a chance to direct it.
